Mozart in Other Media
- Movies and Video
- Amadeus
This well-known movie about Mozart's life is told from the perspective of
Antonio Salieri, a composer who lived at the same time as Mozart.
It is accurate in many respects and the music and story are very good.
However, as the director himself says, it is a drama, not a documentary.
Some missing details have been imagined and some liberties have been taken
with the story to make it better as a movie, and of course these are not
explicitly identified. We should also note that it is an R-rated movie,
although very little of the footage is responsible for this rating.

A well-made recent documentary about the life and music of Mozart, released
in time for Mozart's 250th birthday in 2006.

- Mozart's Letters, Mozart's Life by Robert Spaethling
A great source if you'd like to see translations that really convey the spirit of many
of Mozart's letters.
The original letters are written mostly in German,
although Mozart also knew and used Italian, French, and English, among others;
Robert Spaethling brings them to life for English language readers.
